Events and activities are usually one time affairs and are held throughout the year. Unlike Special Interest Groups they don't occur monthly. Recently these have included Saturday-night themed socials, a theatre party, a cooking class, a tea and a magic show. Some of these are especially designed for members to invite nonmembers such as their spouse or friends.

are get-togethers either in the morning or evening to discuss DNC news and events. They are usually held at a member’s home. We’re planning a short program for every Coffee, something interesting, informative and fun providing lots of time for prospective members to get to know each other, and the Board and club members. It’s also a nice opportunity for all members to keep in touch. What a great way to start your day or unwind in the evening with new friends, lots of conversation and snacks, too. These Coffees are scheduled for Wednesday August 24 (7 pm), Monday October 17 (10 am), Wednesday January 18, 2012 (10 am) and Monday March 5 (10 am). To let us know you are coming, please contact

Our next Exploring Atlanta will be to the Passages exhibit that just opened in Dunwoody. This exhibit features some of the rarest Bible artifacts. Imagine standing inches awayfrom one of the world’s oldest Bibles or a segment from the Dead Sea Scrolls. Passages tells the story of the most debated, most banned, best-selling book of all time through interactive and easily accessible rooms designed to look like real places from history, such as an ancient Hebrew temple or a Medieval English neighborhood. There are many videos and animated historical figures. Save Tuesday February 21st for this trip with Carolyn Harrison as our coordinator and your DNC friends. Complete details in the February newsletter (comes out on January 20th so there will be time to sign up).

"OK Ladies. We need ideas for our Spring Social. Spring is just around the corner, (so it's a few months away) but we need to have a plan and we need your HELP! Most of you are working hard for the Club, but we still need more help and more ideas. So speak up and let us hear from you. Please contact president@dunwoodynewcomers.com with ideas. And be sure to put Spring Social in the subject line.

Also, we need help for THE Special Event to be held in March. Please contact eveningsocials@dunwoodynewcomers.com with your ideas. AND be sure to put THE Special Event in the subject line.

Some of the trips we need help with:

One is the Waffle House Museum in Avondale. How many of you have eaten in the Waffle House? Where else can you get hash browns six different ways! So let's tour this after-hour hangout and possibly get to sample these wonderful hash browns.

Another is a tour of the ice cream/ gelato factory. Maybe get a few free samples? There is one in our area and Rosmary C needs someone to work with her to plan a day trip.

Other ideas are a trip to a glass studio and the Stage Door Players show. The shows. Want to arrange the next trip to a StageDoor Players show? – and she  will share her expertise with you; plus there are more shows into 2012. Be sure to put StageDoor Players in the subject line.

Oh, and for all you social coffee drinkers or non drinkers, our Coffees offer a wonderful time of camaraderie to socialize with old friends and meet new ones. Remember, too, that this is also an opportunity to introduce potential members to our club. Plus this year we've included short programs that are entertaining and/or educational and/or just good fun.

Yes, we sell ads for our online site. It helps pay for nice touches and extras for our events. Just ask any local people you deal with such as your hairdresser, cleaner, vet, stores you shop at, family members, neighbors, religious affiliations, etc. All we need is a business card and most importantly a check for $36.00 for one year. Just contact Melanie Koenig, ads@dunwoodynewcomers.com with the information and it will be added to our website.
